The last 6 months have been challenging to say the least. I have been struggling with a lot of things. Mostly Kaitlyn's "special needs" She has been "out of control." Nothing I was saying or doing was having any affect on her. She was going to do her own thing regardless. Did I mention she is only 6?!? She would stay up until 2 am, often screaming at the top of her lungs to ensure everyone else had to be awake too. She wouldn't eat anything. Well at least not anything she didn't think she should have to which was everything I prepared for dinner.
I was lost at what to do. Our medical insurance no longer covers "mental health" in minors. This must be because children don't need metal health.... YEAH RIGHT!!! This is when they need the most help. They are young and impressionable. Unfortunately I am not in a position to afford $800+ per month for her care.
I decided to talk to my Bishop to see if he knew of any resources that may be able to help us and cost less. It turns out that another Bishop in our stake is a doctor. He is a family practice doctor now, but had lots of experience working with kids with autism and aspergers. He agreed to see us with little to no out of pocket expense. I took her in today, and he was able to get through to Kaitlyn.
She has been saying for weeks that she is not going to take any medicine. He told her that she had to take her medicine of life could not be as great as it is now. He talked to her on an adult level (which is what she responds to). He spoke as though he had been treating her his whole life. Guess what!!!! It worked. Tonight she took her medicine (which we just started her back on) without a fight, and she was fast asleep just after 8p.m. I truly think this is a MIRACLE!! She has not been sleeping at all.
Please continue to pray that she will continue to take her medication, and that we will see some improvement in other "problem" areas. God willing, she will back on track when school starts next month.
I'm so glad you found someone who knew how to help!
